All about Jade Rolling - Part 1

Jade Rolling Have you heard of the new trend of skin tools with names like Jade roller, Gua-sha, etc? I’m sure you have these skincare tools that have become a rave in the skincare market. If you’ve heard of them, do you know their benefits and how to use them? If not, then you’re at the right place. Read on to find out all about it and make it a part of your daily skincare routine.

What is Jade Rolling? A Jade Roller is a timeless skincare tool used by the Imperial Chinese Aristocracy for brighter and toned skin. It is made out of crystal - Jade - which is known for its healing properties and is naturally cool in its touch. It was traditionally used in Chinese medicine for its purifying qualities; also attributed to a meaning of health and wealth. Jade rollers are now used to perform techniques that help sculpt your face, aiding in lymphatic drainage. Usually, jade rollers come with 2 sides - one side is usually bigger in size, to be used on your overall face and neck and the smaller side can be used around your eyes, nose, eyebrows, and mouth.

Types of Facial Rollers? Facial Rollers are not made of only the Jade crystal. There are several other rollers made of deferent crystals which are used in facial massages and are known to have the following qualities:

  • Amethyst Roller: This crystal roller is known to reduce facial puffiness, relieve face and jaw tension by fighting daily stress.

  • Rose Quartz Roller: This crystal is also known as the crystal of love. Rose quartz is believed to help eliminate toxins under the eyes, all over your face and jawline to even out skin tone.

  • Clear Quartz Roller: This roller is called the "Master Healer" for its powerful healing and relaxing properties. It helps in promoting good skin health.

  • Blue Sodalite Roller: This roller minimizes appearance of under-eye dark circles. It also claims to calm skin inflammation and hydrate skin cells.

  • Jade: The most famous among facial rollers. It best works to improve skin elasticity, by drawing away toxins and giving a gentle toned effect.

When to use them? The beauty of this tool is that it can be used at any time of the day but it is most bene facial when added as a part of your morning and nighttime skincare routine. You can chill the jade roller in the refrigerator overnight and use it in the morning to get that extra cooling effect to roll out puffiness around your eyes and face. This facial massaging tool also helps in calming down any in inflammation on your skin. Dermatologists recommend using the jade roller after applying any form of moisturizer to your skin. This way it helps the product on your skin penetrate easily and do its work. You could use anything from a facial oil to a hydration mist or serum or your daily moisturizer and then use a jade roller to gently massage these products onto your skin to lock it all in. Of course, you will have to do all this once only you’ve cleansed your face. Double cleansing is a plus too. Especially in your nighttime skincare routine, make sure you double cleanse to get rid of all the dirt, oil, and impurities your skin withheld during the entire day, and then apply any product of your choice which suits your skin type. Follow up by using the jade roller, to calm your skin down and prep you for a good night’s sleep.
