Maison Franck Sorbier’s new winter couture collection is a refreshing love letter to symbolic storytelling and influential mysticism, expressed through fashion and savoir-faire. Presented at the Hotel Regina in Paris, each look is delivered with sensuality, eccentricity, and personality. The show begins with Monsieur Franck Sorbier opening his own collection: a uniform, a peaked cap, and a suitcase-style leather bag—his theme resembling the train conductor from the 2004 animated film The Polar Express. The energy of travel is felt right from the beginning.
The second model walks in wearing a large red cape. Young and petite, she looks both vampiric and holy at once. An intriguing feeling of mystery begins as suspense fills the room. As I wait for the next model to appear, I suddenly notice a woman in the corner pointing a telescope at me. She looks around, her gaze innocent and full of surprise. Dressed in all black with a small brown satchel, she represents the explorer, the pirate ready to discover new lands.
The rest of the collection follows as a blend of sensual extravaganza. Each look evokes the distinct scents of the haute parfumerie collaboration that Maison Sorbier created with Robertet for this season. Between the designs and the roles of each model, inspirations drawn from tarot women emerge throughout. Voyageur, Ottoman, Persian, Japanese, Indian, and Central Asian motifs blend with European couture craftsmanship. With an emphasis on female adventurers and free-spirited souls crossing cultures, the collection’s key colors are deep red, burgundy, and gold, paired with rich textures of embroidery, jacquard, velvet, and dramatic capes. Adding to the gothic-romance signature are bold shoulders, dark sleeves, and theatrical, eye-heavy makeup looks that generate a magnetic energy between model and audience.
To make the experience even more interactive and personal, the models make deep, intimate eye contact while playfully engaging with props—personalized boxes, a tarot card deck, a telescope, live animals, and spraying perfume throughout the room—allowing the audience to tangibly experience both scent and design.
