There’s a certain kind of comfort that shows like When Hope Calls offer audiences, an emotional steadiness rooted in community, optimism, and human connection. For Cindy Busby, stepping back into that world for Season 3 felt different this time. The pressure that came with joining the series had faded, replaced by familiarity, trust, and a deeper confidence in both the character and the collaborative spirit behind the show.

Known to many viewers through her work on Heartland, Busby has built a career around stories that balance emotional honesty with hope. Whether navigating the complexities of Nora Anderson or reflecting on the realities of longevity in the entertainment industry, she speaks with the kind of grounded perspective that mirrors the very qualities audiences connect with onscreen.
In conversation with LO’AMMI, Busby opens up about returning to Nora’s world, the emotional challenges of Season 3, and why stories centered around faith, love, and resilience continue to matter more than ever.
You return as Nora Anderson for Season 3 of When Hope Calls. What felt different stepping back into her shoes this time around?
I couldn’t help but feel some pressure and nerves during my first season as the new leading lady of “When Hope Calls.” This time around, during season 3, everything was more comfortable and familiar, which gave me a sense of confidence. As a cast and crew, we found our flow and I think a lot of that was because of the relationships and trust we built as a team.

This series has built a loyal, emotionally invested audience. What do you think it is about this world and its characters that resonates so deeply with viewers today?
I think the audience loves that, despite When Hope Calls taking place back in 1920, our characters are relatable, flawed and likeable. Brookfield represents parts of us and reminds us of a simpler time when we relied on community and connection to get us through hard times. Our family-friendly show brings people together, which is something I feel we’re all craving a little bit more of.
Nora is someone who leads with empathy but also quiet strength. Were there any moments this season that challenged you in new ways as an actor?
I constantly feel challenged and I think that’s one of my favorite parts about it. I’m continuously learning and growing as a person and subsequently as an actor too. This season, in episode 3, Nora is confronted by her former mentor, Carter Williams, which has her questioning her talents as a lawyer and overall worth. The scenes were emotionally charged, and it was important for my character to stay grounded and confident while also facing complete internal turmoil. As an actor, those scenes are challenging and can bring up nerves because I want things to go well. I found that staying connected to my scene partner and maintaining presence allowed the truth of the moment to unfold.
You’re widely known for your role on Heartland, another beloved, long-running series. How did that experience shape the way you approach community-driven storytelling like When Hope Calls?

Heartland was a great learning ground in the early years of my career. It taught me to collaborate with the cast and crew and get comfortable as an actor. It also learned how loyal, loving and supportive the audience was. Many of whom have been by my side throughout my career beyond Heartland, which I’m immensely grateful for. Everything that’s come before “When Hope Calls” has helped shape me as a person and an artist to help embody Nora’s essence on the show.
Across your career, you’ve gravitated toward projects centered on relationships, hope, and emotional connection. What draws you to stories that feel heartfelt and grounded?
I’m constantly curious and fascinated by the truth of life and how we navigate through it. The stories I get to be a part of explore the beauty and challenges of relationships, the struggle to maintain hope and the feelings we experience throughout the journey. Fundamentally, I love to be a part of projects that people can root for, connect to and find comfort in.
You’ve worked steadily in film and television for many years! What has longevity in this industry taught you about resilience and growth as an artist?
Longevity in any career path inevitably creates resilience. I’ve come to recognize that challenges tend to bring forth strength and persistence. The more I choose to grow and learn through life’s disappointments, losses and setbacks the more I’ve noticed my artistry deepens. It’s all led me to where I am today and rather than creating resistance around things that are out of my control, the more I surrender into faith. I am a firm believer that that is truly what has brought on my success. Knowing there is no timeline and that not everything is going to go the way I want it to but rather the way that it’s meant to.

As audiences settle in for Season 3, what do you hope they feel, or perhaps even need most, after spending time in Nora’s world again?
I hope that audiences feel a sense of positivity through our stories of joy, faith and love. Growing up, I would sit down and watch shows together with my family and I hope “When Hope Calls” can be that special shared moment for people.

If you want to achieve that perfect, effortless look without spending hours on makeup every morning, choosing the right lash style is key. For those who love a textured, multi-dimensional effect that looks both fluffy and natural, wispy eyelash extensions are definitely the best option. They perfectly mimic natural lash growth while adding stunning volume and definition to your eyes.
